What is Information Literacy?

"Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to “recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.” (American Library Association. American Library Association

Information Literacy skills are vital in developing well-rounded, life-long learners who are able to navigate the complexities of the modern world and critically analyze the flood of information confronted on a daily basis. It gives people the ability to effectively locate, assess, utilize, and share information. This is crucial for succeeding in school, advancing in your career, and being a responsible member of society.

While cheating is an issue when considering AI use in academia, a different but equally important issue is learning. A misuse of AI shortchanges one's own learning and by default one's own formation. The goal of a Taylor University education:

Taylor University students need to approach AI with wisdom and consider whether they are offloading the good and sometimes hard work of developing their communication and critical thinking skills. There is real value in the hard work of researching and learning!

A good rule of thumb is that you should not have AI do anything that you would not have a tutor do for you!
